The Umbwe Route

The Umbwe Route is the steepest and most challenging path up Kilimanjaro. It is recommended only for experienced climbers looking for a true wilderness experience. The 6-day trek is tough but offers a unique adventure with very few people on the trail.

Starting from the southwestern side of the mountain, the route ascends steeply through dense rainforest, then continues through the moorland zone before reaching the Barranco Valley. It joins the Machame Route near the Barranco Wall, offering spectacular views of the southern ice fields and the volcanic landscape.

Short Dry Season (December - February)

Rainy Seasons (March - May & November)
