Ngorongoro Crater

The world's largest intact volcanic caldera — a natural wonder and home to the Big Five.

The Eighth Wonder of the World

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa's most iconic natural wonders. Formed over 2.5 million years ago when a massive volcano collapsed, it is the world's largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. The crater floor spans approximately 260 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of about 6,000 feet above sea level.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to an estimated 25,000 large mammals, including the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros. The crater's unique ecosystem supports a dense population of wildlife, making it one of the best places in Africa for game viewing.

Visitors can enjoy game drives on the crater floor, with opportunities to spot black rhinos, cheetahs, hippos, and thousands of flamingos on Lake Magadi. The stunning views from the crater rim at sunrise are unforgettable, offering a panoramic vista of this natural wonder.
